Kai-Lan and her friends are having a hat parade and everyone starts making hats! But when Hoho copies Rintoo's hat, Rintoo doesn't like it.
Summary[]
Kai-Lan's grandfather, Ye-Ye, is working on his crops wearing his big homemade hat. Being persuaded by Ye-Ye, Kai-Lan comes up with the idea of making her own hat. She at first finds a frog at a pond, and uses a lilypad and shapes it into a hat. Rintoo, Hoho, and Tolee, coming down from his boat house via a bamboo shoot, appear and they come up with the idea of a hat parade.
Rintoo finds sticks to make his hat, with Hoho following him. They find pinecones, leaves, and then combine them all together. Kai-Lan then meets Mr. Fluffy at his bakery, who is also wearing a chef's hat. Tolee, who had climbed up a tree, tells Kai-Lan that he wants to make his hat out of feathers. They then blow the feathers out of the bird's nest, but then a gust of wind blows Kai-Lan's hat into a roof. Kai-Lan calls Lulu via a song, and then Lulu appears via a balloon tied to her horn. They then get her hat back, and Lulu then joins the hat parade.
When everyone meets back after splitting up to make their hats, Tolee notices that Rintoo and Hoho have the same hat. Rintoo looks at Hoho's hat, noting that the objects they used are the same. He gets mad at Hoho and tells him to take it off, claiming that he copied him. Hoho refused to take off the hat, and Rintoo says he doesn't want to be in the parade because Hoho had the same hat as him, and he decided to quit. Kai-Lan tries to get Rintoo to calm down, and then they head to Mr. Fluffy's bakery, where he and his assistant Mei Mei are shown to bake two very similar cakes, with the only difference being a missing cherry. Rintoo thought Mr. Fluffy will be upset at Mei Mei because Mei Mei copied his cake, but Kai-Lan told him that he is smiling and not mad. Rintoo helps out via putting in a missing cherry on Mei Mei's cake.
Kai-Lan and Rintoo learn that when a friend copies something you've made, it's often because they really like it too. They both return to Hoho and Tolee, with Hoho hiding behind Tolee because he is scared. Rintoo asks Hoho if he copied his hat because he liked it, and Hoho says yes. This makes Rintoo happy, and he apologizes for getting mad. He tells Hoho that he wants him to wear the hat in the parade. To match Rintoo's hat, Hoho gets an extra pinecone to go along with Rintoo's three. They then start the parade, where Lulu appears in a gold crown with a bunch of balloons. Everyone joins the hat parade, and Kai-Lan and Rintoo recap what they learned.
